Revisiting Ireland

Photo

A gist of the blog:

I visited Dublin, Ireland last week to attend the seminar organised by Invest Hong Kong and Enterprise Ireland to promote collaborations between Hong Kong and Ireland in different aspects.

Ireland has positioned itself as the gateway and aviation hub connecting Europe and the North America. With its young and well-educated workforce, and a highly competitive tax regime, Ireland has successfully attracted many leading multinational technology companies to set up regional headquarters there, creating a large number of quality job opportunities for the locals. In recent years, Ireland has seen rapid developments in the areas of Fintech, aviation, aircraft leasing and pharmaceutical industry.

As an international financial centre with excellent telecommunication infrastructure and R&D capabilities, Hong Kong is well positioned to develop into a Fintech hub. Cyberport currently houses a vibrant Fintech community, comprising some 250 local and overseas companies of various sizes. On aircraft leasing, we have amended the relevant laws to create a competitive tax environment, and will further enhance Hong Kong’s attractiveness as a hub of aircraft leasing by expanding our network of Comprehensive Double Taxation Agreements with other tax jurisdictions.
