Casting your vote for Hong Kong

Today we are holding the first Legislative Council (LegCo) election following the enhancement of the electoral system, reaching another important milestone for Hong Kong’s new phase of development. With the implementation of the “patriots administering Hong Kong” principle and the executive-led system, the newly LegCo to be formed is expected to perform a more proactive role in monitoring the Government's work and promoting Hong Kong’s development at the same time.

The latest stable environment has provided us with the golden opportunity to focus on development. We need new visions, new blueprint and a greater driving force to expedite Hong Kong’s development. Your participation will give us the needed momentum to build a better future for Hong Kong and address people’s aspiration for a better quality of living.

I casted my vote this morning and the process was very smooth. The candidates are of higher quality in general, which supported the improved governance of Hong Kong in the new development phase.

I casted my vote this morning to support Hong Kong’s better development. Cast your vote for Hong Kong!

During the course of Hong Kong’s development, we have to address the different needs of the society, strike a right balance between the interests of different strata and sectors, and take into account the business environment for enterprises and Hong Kong’s overall competitiveness. The administrators of Hong Kong should take all-round consideration and make decisions based on the overall interest of the society. At the same time, we should also understand and tackle the dilemma that may arise in the development process. As such, as citizens’ representatives in monitoring and pushing forward the work of the executive branch, the LegCo should consist of representatives of different strata and sectors, so as to ensure that the Government’s work can strike a suitable balance between different interests of the society and facilitate the stable progress of the society.

There are 153 candidates running in today’s election, representing different strata, interests and parts of the political spectrum in Hong Kong. Apart from those from political parties whom we are more familiar with, there are also professionals from different industries, leaders from business sector, labour sector or associations, former government officials and people from grassroot. Through the competition of programmes and ideas, they have brought out diversified proposals and options for Hong Kong’s better development and priority in resources deployment.

The improved electoral system has shown a wide representativeness, political inclusiveness, fair competition and balanced participation. Your vote could bring the right candidates with passions, visions and capability to the LegCo, ensuring the Government to have a multi-angle consideration in making decisions. Hong Kong is moving towards governance and prosperity. Under the latest stable environment, we should not only aim to progress steadily, but also speed up our pace of development to unleash Hong Kong’s full potential - what we aim should be a stable and fast development for Hong Kong.

Different countries or cities pursue their own development paths which best suit their actual situation. The arrangement of “One Country, Two Systems” has given Hong Kong its stable and unique strength. Today’s election allows Hong Kong to run democracy under a stable and free environment in accordance to our constitutional framework, which also best suits our actual situation. For any new institutional arrangement, it takes time for the people to get familiar with. By participating actively, we could promote a virtuous cycle within the system and facilitate a gradual recovery for Hong Kong’s development. This institutional strength will help us achieve a more fruitful outcome for our development.

Casting our votes is a chance for us to express our wishes and expectations on Hong Kong’s development. Your participation will help build a brighter future for Hong Kong.

Let us build the future and share the fruit of development together.

Cast your vote for Hong Kong!
