Inheritance and Innovation for Construction Industry

Photo

A gist of the blog:

Nowadays, trainings for the construction industry are diversified. Besides trainings on professional skills, and project supervision and management, application of innovative construction technologies and elements on whole person education are also covered. Moreover, through the “designated workers for designated skills” arrangement and recognition under Qualifications Framework, the industry has become more professional and is able to assist young people in establishing pathway for career development.

The overall capital expenditure of Hong Kong will maintain at the level between $250 billion to $300 billion annually in the coming 5 years. The Government will continue to support the work of the Construction Industry Council, offer more quality training opportunities to young people and improve the professionalism and image of industry practitioners.

Although the quality of Hong Kong’s infrastructure and property constructions is internationally renowned, there is still much room for improvement in construction methods and application of innovation and technology. The Construction Industry Council has set up the Construction Innovation and Technology Application Centre to provide the industry with information on local and overseas new technologies, and assist small-and-medium-sized enterprises in adapting those technologies in their operations. I have also set aside $1 billion in the Budget to set up the Construction Innovation and Technology Fund. The Fund has started receiving applications since October.

We hope to collaborate with the industry to promote the further development of the construction industry towards a more professional, innovative, efficient and safer direction. This can also support the development of Hong Kong’s economy, and provide better career prospects to industry practitioners.
