Supporting the young people to realise their potential

Photo

A gist of the blog:

One of the key objectives of the Budget is to promote diversified economic development, in particular in providing more quality employment and development opportunities for our younger generations. I had the chance to meet and talk to quite a number of young people while I was preparing for the Budget, and I felt that many of them were very hardworking and highly committed to furthering their career.

For young people who wish to join the innovation and technology industry, we have set aside in the Budget $50 billion to support the development of the industry, to enhance the infrastructure and attract talent. For those who are interested in creative industries, arts and culture, we will inject another $1 billion into the CreateSmart Initiative for nurturing youths and helping start-ups. For those who are good at sports and want to become elite athletes, we will be injecting another $5 billion into the Elite Athletes Development Fund. On e-sports, I will allocate $100 million to Cyberport to promote the technological development and nurture talent for the sector.

Our young people have different interests and aspirations. Whether they wish to pursue a career in academic research, innovation and technologies, creative industries, arts, sports or in other sectors, or wish to showcase their talent in the e-sports arenas, I hope we can provide the environment and opportunities for them to realise their potential.
